Untitled [Hole, Hainault] from the series ‘Bushes’, hand printed, 20” x 24”, Editions 1/3 + AP
Guy Gormley has an acute eye which takes in the patterns and pertinences of everyday life, subtly probing the attachments we have with our environments and possessions. Focusing on the unnoticed and the discarded, or the revered and treasured, his photography questions the nature of our values. A keen material awareness of the photographic medium gives his hand prints unique spontaneity.
Gormley studied at Brighton University, Central St. Martins College of Art & Design and Goldsmiths. Recent exhibitions have included Bushes Edit, 2010 (solo-show), and Vehicles, 2010. His next solo-exhibition with Son Gallery opens in September 2011. Other exhibitions include the Bucharest Biennial, Bucharest 2005, and Off Modern, London 2009. Gormley also produces and curates Brickhouse, an experimental exhibition platform which had its first season in the winter of 2009 with a series of one week solo shows. He is a practicing DJ and co-founded the successful club night Top Nice.
