Son Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Peckham set up by curator Guy Robertson (born 1985, Oxford) and artist Tom Saunderson (born 1984, Norwich). The gallery works with artists who value producing and developing extensive bodies of work. It aims to give artists the time and support needed to turn progressive ideas into practice. Previous exhibitions have included painting and sculpture however the programme has an emphasis on lens based media and bringing these into a relationship with more traditional art forms.
We want Son Gallery to be a space where artists and audiences can experience a brake on life: a deceleration in the widening gyres of cultural production. In the words of William Faulkner, “The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life.”
In the twenty-first century the camera and the screen, in all their still, moving and interactive capacities, are of upmost importance through their impact. It is with this in mind that Son Gallery particularly works to support work which relates to lens based media.
